I recently had the pleasure of working with a wonderful couple in Houston, TX. They had a closet of “miscellaneous” items that was so much fun to organize. Some might think a miscellaneous closet or drawer is a bad thing. I don’t think it is – as long as you’ve already gone through it and donated/disposed of junk items, and sorted, organized, and labeled what’s remaining. Miscellaneous items could include board games, extra light bulbs, DVDs, keepsakes, and office supplies.
A challenging item to store was this client’s collection of video game consoles and games. I always like to try and reuse as many items around the house as we can before buying new storage items. Buying new items 1) may not be in your budget and 2) sometimes just attracts more junk. You know all those empty shoe boxes you have at home? (Why don’t we throw those out, by the way?)
Reuse those empty shoe boxes to store video game consoles and their games! It’s a great way to keep them dust-free and makes it much easier to stack and organize inside your closet. Label them so you know what is inside and then that random day you want to play on your Nintendo, you can easily grab your box labeled “Nintendo” and “Nintendo Games”.
