Organized Bags Review: Lo & Sons – The Pearl

April 20, 2016

I purchased The Pearl on April 5th. I got it in the black nappa leather (soft leather – as opposed to the saffiano leather, a harder leather) with camel interior (other option is lilac) and gold hardware (instead of silver).

Pros for exterior

+ The Nappa leather is really soft and thick.
+ The zippers don’t get caught and are sturdy.
+ The logo isn’t overpowering.
+ The strap is convertible and has 3 lengths.. crossbody, shoulder, and wristlet.
+ Three snaps across the open middle area ensure that nothing falls out.

Cons for exterior

– While the video shows that an iPad Mini can fit, it only fits when you do NOT have a case on it.

Pros for interior

+ The interior lining is thick and sewn well.
+ The interior pockets keep me organized!
+ The hummingbird print is cute but not distracting.
+ Cell phone fits perfectly in the larger interior pocket and slides in and out easily.
+ The pen slot is perfect for exactly that – no more digging.
+ Three lipsticks (or round, lipstick sized items) can fit in the interior pocket.
+ The keystrap is long enough for me to keep my keys attached while I open the door.

Cons for interior

– Where the cell phone is supposed to go (as seen in the video on the Lo & Sons website), my phone – a Samsung Galaxy S6 – does NOT fit unless I take the case off. My phone with case only fits where the passport is supposed to go.

Overall thoughts:

I REALLY appreciate the color combinations and options. I am very much a gold person rather than a silver person, and often times I find jackets or purses I like but with silver hardware, and I am instantly turned off (yes, I am that detail oriented).

I’m sad that my iPad mini does not fit in the purse with it’s case on. I need my case so that I can stand my iPad up when I watch YouTube or Netflix, so this is probably the most inconvenient aspect for me. Maybe I just need to buy a thinner case, but I really like the one I have because of the color and snap closure.

The 4 interior pockets really help keep me organized. No digging for my cell phone, pen, or lipstick – which are probably the 3 things I dig for the most. As far as the exterior zipper compartments, I’m so happy my full size Kate Spade wallet fits. I put it inside one of the exterior zipper compartments which is great easy access when I am commuting nd need to take my wallet out to tag my Clipper Card. (Sidenote: I even fit my left over breakfast burrito in the exterior zipper pocket…don’t judge).

Where the passport is theoretically supposed to go is where my cell phone fits. Without the case on my cell phone, it fits in the smaller interior pocket.  This isn’t THAT big of a deal as I can easily rearrange items when traveling. I would probably put my passport in one of the zipper closures just so it’s extra safe – although the 3 snap closures work absolutely great. I didn’t realize it had 3 snap closures and i was actually worried about the open center part because I am paranoid, so I was really happy to see it when I opened the box!

I love the pen pocket. Such a small part, I know, but I love that it fits one pen and stands it up right there – no more digging in your purse to find it at the bottom. They key strap is also nice and long. I’m able to open my home door with my keys still attached.

Lastly, this piece is really versatile fashion wise and I absolutely love that. It goes well with jeans and sneakers if I am running errands (most likely to adjust the strap to the crossbody length), it looks super cute when I’m in the middle in a dress with sneakers (this is when I would adjust the strap to the shoulder length), and would work great for a night out with your girlfriends (at the wristlet length).

Overall score for the The Pearl by Lo & Sons: 9 out of 10
Number of exterior organizational pockets: 2
Number of interior organizational pockets: 4
Great for: Shopping, traveling, touring
Retail price: $248.00 – But on sale right now for $173.60!
Is it worth the money? Yes. Definitely. Absolutely.

I had been wanting this purse for a long time, and I’m glad I finally bit the bullet and got it! I love the sleek outer look but super functional interior. I can stay organized and still look cute. What’s even better is that it’s on sale right now for Mother’s Day! You can find it here. And no, I am not being paid to promote this product. I absolutely love it and happened to be writing my post when I discovered it was on sale!

Have you purchased The Pearl by Lo & Sons? What do you think?
Were you thinking about buying it? Are you swayed to do so or not to do so now?

Great review! I already own (and love!) my Lo & Sons pearl purse, but I didn’t know that I could make it a wristlet! Thanks for the tip.

Great review! I’ve bought and returned this bag before because I carry way too much crap with me. And at that time I just could not make it work no matter how much I really liked it! Well, I just rebought it (this time in that tan nappa) because I’ve never been able to get it out of my head. But over the last year since returning it, I have pared down a lot, in part, so I could make it or a bag that size work for me. I bought a much smaller wallet (and I am probably going to go even smaller there), and overall just deleting stuff I feel like I don’t really “need.” I am just out of control with all the crap I carry.

Hi Ame! I definitely used to bring a lot around with me (filling up a full size Longchamp), but this purse has helped me narrow down what I really need. I won’t lie.. there are some times where I’m like – yes I have that! No wait, it’s in my bigger purse 🙁 – but more or less I love the convenience and organization of this purse. I’m thinking about getting the tan nappa also!

I can’t decide between the nappa and the saffiano. Is there a particular reason why you got it in the nappa leather? Or vice versa, why you didn’t get it in the saffiano leather?

      Hi Kim,

I decided to go with Nappa leather because it’s more flexible. I’m able to stuff it if absolutely necessary because the soft leather gives me some extra space. I am thinking about getting the Saffiano leather though! I think it will be nice a sturdy for nights out and such. Hope this helps!

    Hey fellow Bronxite!

I just bought the bag and it is a really great bag for traveling. I bought it for my trip next week and I’m glad I did.

However, don’t you feel the quality is a little on the low side for the price? While the design is great I don’t like the stitching, the very thin almost plasticy lining, the not-so-hard hardware, and the strap that holds your keys is just a mere cheap ribbon from the dollar store.

I thought about this bag for a solid two months and finally bit the bullet. I will keep it for now as the design makes it sort of worth it, but I am really disappointed with the quality.

    Thoughts?

      Hey girl!

I know what you mean. I remember thinking for a minute it was very lightweight when I first bought it. But let me tell you, once you start stuffing things in there, you’ll see how durable it is. I’ve used it almost every single day since I bought it and it definitely does not have that low quality feel to it. I’ve been able to put a sweater inside, even a burrito, in addition to my wallet and keys. It hasn’t stained or scratched yet and it feels tougher. It just needs some use to get to that point! Hope you end up loving it as much as I do. <3

I have been stalking this bag for months… I have repeatedly put the pearl and OMG in the shopping cart countless times… I thought I was sold on wanting Nappa but then read a blog that the saffiano is more durable and I want this to be an everyday bag..then it is the debate on what color LOL I know just buy the darn bag LOL 🙂 I have seen many pictures of the camel but worried it is too orange and not tan?! I should just buy and return if I don’t love and stop torturing myself right?! lol 🙂

Oh, trust me, I know the feeling! I looked at this bag for a whole year before actually buying it. As I said in a previous comment to another reader, I’ve used it almost every day since I got it. I’ve gotten my money’s worth already. ANDDDD I just got the O.M.G. bag last week! I’m flying to Houston this Thursday and will be testing it out for review 🙂

    hi!

What are your thoughts now that you’ve had the bag for close to 6 months? It’s on sale again and I can’t stop thinking about getting one for myself.

I love it just as much, if not more, now! It’s such a go to – great for every day and also travel. It’s been with me through a lot already in the last few months and I’m thinking about getting another in possibly the saffiano leather this time.
