The Organization Organization Blog

UPDATE! 11 Feb 2015 at 21:00

Since my post published, I’ve received numerous comments from unhappy Passion Planner customers. It seems people are still waiting on their orders, are receiving faulty products, and not having a great customer service experience. When I wrote my blog post, I was speaking only to my personal experience. I had not read any other reviews in hopes to stay unbiased. I had no idea how upset customers are! I want to say thank you to those who have pointed out the troubles they have been experiencing. Please use your own discretion in purchasing this product. I recommend the product itself – the passion roadmap process has really helped me with my project goals – but it seems like the company is having trouble satisfying their customers, so buyer beware! I can’t speak for them, but I hope all of you who ordered and are having trouble hear back from them soon and get the outcome you desire.

A video on a planner went viral on Facebook last fall. As soon as it hit interwebs, at least 5 people mentioned me in comments, sending me private messages, and texting me.. “Jiliane.. you HAVE to get this. It’s so you!” I watched Angelia Trinidad‘s video on her journey creating the Passion Planner and got hooked. I LOVE planners. I pre-ordered in November and anxiously awaited for January. I’ve had it for about 3 weeks and decided to do a first impression review since it’s an organizing tool. I have the compact version, which is 5.5″ x 8.5″. Here are my thoughts so far:

Customer Service – 5 out 5
I can’t even imagine how many orders Passion Planner received once the video went viral. When I ordered in November, the expectation was set that I was to receive it in late January. During that time, my shipping address changed. I sent them an email asking them to change my shipping address.. and they did it! Easy! My emails were answered within 48 hours and my planner made it safely to my new home. I was very happy about this. Additionally, they kept us updated on strikes at different ports where their shipment was scheduled to come in and how that would impact our order. I appreciate being kept in the loop.

Quality: 4.5 out of 5
The cover leather is soft.. which is both good and (potentially) bad. Good in a sense that (1) it feels great and pleasant to carry and (2) that it can mold and shape into wherever I put it.. my purse, book bag. Also, I ran my fingernail across the cover to see if it would scratch, and it didn’t!  On the flip side, sometimes I wish it was hardcover to provide more support if I happen to be writing standing up.. but it’s not that big of a deal. Since the cover is soft, the tight elastic band that keeps the planner closed has left an imprint on the front cover. No big deal but definitely noticeable. I have only had it for 3 weeks, so we will see how the cover stands up to the test of time.

Features: 4 out of 5
I really like the bright green ribbon place holder. Since the entire planner is black and white, it gives it a nice pop. There is a small pocket on the inside back cover. It has a nice satin finish and seems pretty durable, though I have not used it yet. Unfortunately, it does not have a pen loop. This is the biggest downside for me. I have been clipping my pen to the elastic in the front, but it’s not stable. I really wish it had a small elastic band to hold a pen on the side.

Passion Planner

Layout: 4.5 out of 5
The planner is printed in grayscale, has monthly view, weekly view, a section for monthly reflection, a section for to-dos, and a section for doodling. The daily layout within the week view starts at 6am and ends at 10pm, with lines separating every 30 minutes. The spacing for the 30 minute slot is really small.. so unless you naturally write small, that can get a bit annoying. I usually have 1 hour blocks for anything I do, so writing 2 lines works just fine. There is a good amount of space in the “doodle” area. I’m not a doodler, but it was enough for me to jot down all my “micro tasks” last week. I used it to supplement the “to-do” lists on the bottom left pages. I really liked those for what I like to call “macro to-dos”.. big picture things like going to post office, a big project at my office for the week. I actually like that the planner is printed in grayscale (and I’m sure it was cost-effective for them) because it allows me to color code using hi-lighters.. which I love to do 🙂

Passion Planner

Process: 5 out of 5
The passion roadmap is excellent. I’ve had a project on my radar for a few months now. I was completing parts of it here and there, but was dreading the rest. Sitting down for 15 minutes allowed me to set up a plan for the next 5 months. The steps are clearly laid out and are simple to follow. It broke down my big “passion” project into manageable tasks. I felt accomplished, excited, and optimistic about my project when I was done.

OVERALL SCORE: A- (23 out of 25)

If you’re a planner addict like me, and you have a project/passion you want to see to fruition, I definitely recommend this planner! The compact version is currently sold out, but the regular version 8.5″x11″ is available for preorder. But in the meantime.. you can download it for FREE here! Print yourself out some copies until you get your real one in the mail 🙂

Did you get a Passion Planner? Let me know what you think of it in the comments below!

I love mine! I started to get a little impatient come January and am not sure how the cover will stand the test of time (and being thrown into every bag) … but I’m so happy I have it now! I personally love the quotes and little goals for the week. I also like to write daily intentions in the “today’s focus” section. Practicing my own mindfulness! Great review Jil!

      Hi Kathryn,

Thanks for your comment! “Practicing mindfulness” – great mantra. It was tough not having it the first week of January, but when it came I jumped right in and really enjoy it now.

WOW!! I find it very irresponsible that you would post a 5/5 for customer service. Although that may have been YOUR experience, you only need to check Passion Planner’s Facebook page to realize that has NOT been the experience for most of us. Many of us that ordered in Nov and early Dec are STILL waiting for planners that were promised. And now some of the “lucky” ones that have received their planners are reporting missing pages, misplaced dates, and broken covers. I would love to give my opinion on the other aspects of your review, but since I am still waiting on my planner I can’t. Not to mention that this company does not answer email responses, Facebook messages, or calls to their business!! I would NOT recommend anyone support this business!!!!

      Hi Arlane,

Thanks for your comment! I can only speak for my experience – which after reading the comments on my post seems to be very far and few in between! I don’t know why I got lucky. It’s so unfortunate that you’ve had troubles because I think it can really help people focus on completing their goals. I hope they respond to you soon!

It’s good to hear you are happy with your planner and the service your received. However, I believe you are doing a disservice to your readers by not letting them knowing of the volume of complaints of late orders, virtually no response to emails, horrific customer service, faulty products (planners falling apart), incorrect sizes received and more. Check out comments on their Facebook and Instagram pages for the other side of the story:

      Hi Jony,

Thanks for your comment! When I wrote my blog post, I was only speaking to my personal experience. I had not read any of their Facebook page. I’m so sad to hear of all the trouble the company is having. It’s a great product if they could get it to everyone! I’ve since updated my post with a buyer beware warning. Thanks again for pointing out the issues.

Jiliane – I applaud you for updating your post and tweeting about the update to include these comments and warnings. At first I was convinced that you knew someone at Passion Planner (since you rec’d your planner much faster than anyone else and that they actually responded to your email). Glad to see that is not the case and you have presented the other side of the Passion Planner Saga…

I wish my experience with customer service was as good as yours. I’ve never received anything but an automated e-mail. I ordered my planner on December 8 and was promised my planner the last week of January and never received it. I attempted to contact passion planner to cancel my order and after a week with no response I called my credit card company to dispute the charge. They promised daily updates, but I there haven’t been any in several weeks. I was super excited about this planner, and was patient. Unfortunately, this experience was not pleasant and I would never order from them again, or recommend that anyone else order.

      Hi Stacey,

Thanks for your comment! After reading all the comments on my post, it seems my customer service experience was VERY rare. I don’t know why that is. It’s a great product if they could just get it out to everyone! I hope they contact you soon so you can cancel our order. Thanks for pointing out the troubles the company is having. I’ve since updated my post with a “buyer beware” warning.

I ordered a Passion Planner and have not received it. I emailed over a week ago, but received no response. If you want to know about their true customer service check out their Facebook page and Instagram. You can see hundreds of people who do not agree with this review. Hardly any updates in the past couple weeks from Passion Planner. Orders have been cancelled because customers asked questions. This seemed like a great product but has turned into a nightmare for me. This company is clearly over their head and continue to take orders even though they have not fulfilled orders from November. A yearly planner is pointless if you receive it in March and still paid full price.

      Hi Lindsay,

Thanks for your comment. When I wrote my blog post I was writing specifically to my personal experience and I hadn’t read their Facebook page yet. Thanks for pointing out the issues everyone has been experiencing. I’ve since updated my post with a warning. It’s a great product if they could only get it out to everyone! I really hope they get back to you soon so you can cancel your order.

I’m quite surprised there are no other comments on here. I am happy to hear that you did get yours AND that it wasn’t defective. It’s been over 2 months now and I’m still waiting. I imagine that this is going to be a worthwhile product when I do get it, but there are hundreds of unhappy customers with the potential of not reordering next year. There is NO excuse for not keeping us up to date. If Angelia wants to regain the integrity of her company, she has to do a lot of damage control to win back our trust. I hope she doesn’t lose her company over this. SIGNIFICANT discounts (or FREE Planners) should be given for 2016. This whole experience has been disappointing, frustrating and tiring.

      Hi Emily,

Thanks for your comment! I’ve definitely received a bunch of comments sharing the same sentiment. When I wrote my review I was speaking only to my personal experience – which seems to be VERY rare. I had not read any Facebook posts prior. Thanks for pointing out the issues. I’ve since updated my post with a buyer beware warning. It’s a great product if they could just get it out to everyone. I definitely agree with you that Angelia should address the issue in a proactive way by providing future discounts or something similar.

The customer service department of this very small company is dealing with the aftermath of a product going VIRAL people! The goal they needed to meet was very small in comparison to what they actually made. So I’m sure they’re totally overwhelmed. It’s making me so upset to see how people are reacting to the delay in shipping and response time. If everyone floods their email team with constant complaints about shipping they can’t accuratly respond to the people who have defective products. Plus it seems to me that most of these people haven’t ever backed a kickstart, because the dates aren’t promised to people. They give estimated arrival time, and they do their best to complete them accordingly. This isn’t the first time I’ve waited an extra month to receive something cool. Your planner isn’t going to be useless if you get it one month late. Even a month and a half. The product is freaking amazing, I got mine yesterday defect free and about a month late. I can say that this product will be life changing and people should seriously calm down. Use your phones calendar to keep track of dates until you get it, rather than spamming all the feeds with hate. This is a new business trying to start something amazing, give them time and respect.

I saw the video back in November and LOVED both the concept and the fact that Angelia identified a problem and went to solve it by starting her own business. I immediately shared the video with several friends to take advantage of the free PDF version. In the meantime, I used the generic ones on her website and loved them. I’ve found that it’s really valuable and eye-opening to see where your time goes when you break it down into half-hour increments. I find that I’m much more time conscious and schedule tasks according to how much time I think they’ll take. The result of which is higher productivity levels and less wasted time.

In terms of the customer service, I understand that there are circumstances completely out of their control at play. Yes, there could always be more communication, but I felt it was clear that orders were flooding in and that shipment might be delayed. For reference, my boyfriend ordered me a compact version on November 13th and we received it in early February. I think that despite the slow arrival time, it’s important that we continue to support fellow women-owned small businesses and cut them a bit of slack.
