Last year I reviewed the Day Designer for Blue Sky at Target. I went crazy looking for them because they were sold out of the one I wanted at 3 different stores! This year, I was fortunate enough to be sent the products and I am happy to do a review my fellow planneristas out there (no, I am not being paid to write this)! Check out the video above for a quick overview. My detailed thoughts are below.
The inside layout of the Weekly/Monthly planners are the same as last year. So if you want details on that, head over to that post. Today I want to focus on the 10×8 weekly/monthly that I did not have last year, and the Today & To-Do planner that was not available last year. Lastly, I’m excited to do a giveaway! Details below 🙂
The 10×8 weekly/monthly planner retails for $9.99. I think this is a great planner to keep at your desk to help you get through the week. It’s wide when opened, but of course since it’s spiral bound you can fold it over to the side of the week you are on. The weekly appointment time goes from 7:00am – 7:00pm. This planner would be good for someone who is very time oriented (versus task oriented) as there is really no where to write down daily to-dos specifically (but the smaller weekly/monthly planners DO have a space for to-dos).
The weekends also have the 7am-7pm time frame but in a condensed version. Each day has a space called “Tonight” where you can list something like your dinner, after dinner plans, or daily gratitude. Each month starts off with a monthly view and then a page with 3 lists – To Do, To Call, To Buy.
I love the cover design! This floral design was not available last year. I feel like I have been seeing a lot of the navy/pink combo on Instagram and the like, so I like it and think it’s super cute. The cover is protected by a plastic. The pages are thin and you can see the other side of the page when you lift the paper. The months are tabbed and covered in plastic. I like that the planner is not that thick (about 0.5 inch).
My favorite part of this book is actually the checklists in the back – Essential Info – section. I love the On-the-go and Emergency checklists. There is an existing list of essentials that is definitely on point and can get you started. The travel checklist has 6 sections – General travel, Clothes, Travel with kids, Personal Items, Weather/Seasonal, Important Extras. It would be so great so have this planner and list handy while you’re packing to check things off.
Unfortunately, there’s really only 2 of each list mentioned above. I personally like writing things down (just can’t seem to hop on the “phone has everything” bandwagon), but you can use them as a guideline to create a checklist on your phone after you’ve used them up.
The thing I am MOST excited about with this year’s release is the “Today and To-Do” planner! I’ve been debating buying a full version from Day Designer, but the price and size (hardcover and 300+ pages) always made me hesitate. I am loving this affordable and portable version for the Blue Sky and Target collaboration! The “Today and To-Do” is 5×8, made of a soft faux-leather, and retails for $9.99.
The Today and To-Do is broken up into 3 sections. The first is Monthly, so all of the months are printed one after the other. Next is a Weekly view followed by a Daily view. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that the weeks and days are not dated – no wasting paper! Some days you just have more activities and some you have less and I hate wasting and skipping days. The months are from July to June, there are 16 blank weeks, and there are 100 blank days. So, theoretically this could last you for 4 months.
The days go from 6am – 8pm, have a space for appointments AND to-dos, daily gratitude, notes, tonight, and today’s top 3. This planner is great for helping you get through each day, which will help you get through each week, and each month. One of the things I noticed is that the planner comes with only 2 ribbons to help keep your place. I feel like it should have had 3 so you can keep track of which month, week, and year you are on.
There are blank note pages and a list of holidays on the back. It does NOT have any of the checklists included in the 10×8 weekly/monthly. planner itself is really lightweight, soft, and portable. I love the stitching detail and gold emboss on the front.
I noticed top searches on my page included “Day Designer missing pages”. I took a brief look through both and didn’t notice any. I wonder what the rest of you have experienced?
Below is a picture of different sizes available in the collection. The white floral is 5.875×8.625. The turquoise is 5×8. The black and white stripe is 3.625×6.125.
They are offering the same covers as last year also – the black and gold stripes and well as the gold leopard. The “Modern Romantic” collection consists of the navy and white floral. The “Colorful and Creative” collection consists of turquoise and navy, and black and pink stripes.
I think the Weekly/Monthly planner is great for someone who is TIME oriented (see last year’s post for details on that layout), and the Today & To-Do is great for someone who is TASK oriented. While I was sent these planners for review, I purchased 2 with my own money for a giveaway! I am giving away the white floral Weekly Monthly Planner Notes format (lots of blank note pages at the back of the book in addition to the weekly and monthly view) and a navy blue Today & To-Do.
